Several youngsters enjoyed a fun and educational time during the recent 4-H USA Camp, held Monday, June 29, through Wednesday, July 1, at the Madison County Extension Office. The day campers had the opportunity to make patriotic-related crafts, enjoy tasty red, white and blue treats, learn about flag etiquette and more. The camp culminated in a field trip to St. Augustine, Fla., the nation’s oldest city.
“My favorite part of the camp was going to St. Augustine and seeing the castle,” said camper Kennedy Holbrook, referring to the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. This is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States, built by the Spanish in 1695. The fort still stands overlooking Mantanzas Bay, in St. Augustine.
The Madison 4-H program is open to all youth age five to 18. For more information, please call the Madison County Extension Office at (850) 973-4138.
