Two people were injured during a two-vehicle crash on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 5:55 a.m.
According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, Hai Nguyen, 57, of Houston, Tx. was southbound on SR 53 South, travelling in a 2015 Toyota Rav4. She was actively looking for a place to turn around and had slowed her vehicle to approximately 15 mph and had partially entered onto the paved shoulder of the highway.
At the same time, Candace Buckler, 27, of Madison, was also southbound on SR 53 South. Due to moderate fog, dark lighting conditions and limited visibility, the right front of her 2012 Dodge Journey struck the left rear of the Toyota. The impact caused the Toyota to rotate 180 degrees and strike a guardrail, before coming to a final rest facing east.
Nguyen suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Madison County Memorial Hospital.
Buckler suffered minor injuries while her passenger suffered no injuries.
FHP was assisted on scene by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Madison County EMS. Trooper W. E. Harrell was the investigating officer.
