The Madison Woman's Club met Thursday, March 9, dressed in green attire to celebrate the month of St. Patty's Day. The tables were decorated with green leprechaun trolls, gold coins and green beads to add to the festive mood of the meeting.
Divine Events catered the luncheon with Chicken Divan, strawberry salad, bread and cookies. The food was amazing.
Debbie Tuckey opened the meeting with the pledge and singing of the Star Spangled Banner. Florida Smith read a beautiful story called “Quilt of Holes” and a blessing.
The Madison Woman's Club takes on a project each month as an outreach to the community. This month, the Woman's Club helped to provide needed items for the Senior Citizens Council. These donated items are for senior citizens who cannot get these items funded through other programs.
Guest speaker Lisa Blakely, from the Senior Center, spoke to a full house about services provided by the center. In it's 50th year, the center currently provides home services for 60 people with more than 100 people on the wait list. They employ 16 home care workers who provide respite care, personal care and companionship. Hot meals are prepared daily at the center for seniors, age 60 and older, free of charge. Transportation can be arranged to and from the daily lunch and the menu is posted on the Facebook page, Senior Citizens Council of Madison County Florida. Local transportation, nutritional education, shopping assistance, and even a podiatrist are just a few of the many services provided by the Senior Citizens Council. The center, located on 1161 SW Harvey Greene Drive in Madison, has a computer lab, a fitness center, outdoor games and equipment, and Bingo games set up for Wednesday nights. Call (850) 973-4241 for more information about any of the services provided.
The Woman's Club is currently selling raffle tickets for $10 for a chance to win free gas or groceries. The money will help fund service projects and pay for renovations to the Woman's Club Building. The drawing will be held at Down Home Days on April 22. See any Woman's Club member for tickets.
In April, the Woman's Club will welcome Christie Adams from Fellowship Baptist Church’s food bank.
