On Wednesday, Aug. 16, the Madison Rotary Club welcomed Genesis Timber President Matt Webb as their guest speaker. He highlighted many of the jobs created through the forestry industry, as well as a heavy equipment operation training program for the future. The program will greatly improve the industry’s ability to hire more personnel who will be qualified in operating the expensive machinery that is common to the forestry profession. “There is too much at stake and too much liability to just put someone off the street in one of these machines,” said Webb.
Webb went on to discuss the services his company offers within the roughly 120-mile radius that they cover. His company received high praise from Rotarian Joe Boyles, whose timber farms have partnered with Webb’s company for decades.
The Madison Rotary Club meets each Wednesday, at 12 p.m., at the Villa Maria Social Hall of the St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, located on Orange Avenue, across from Beggs Funeral Home, in Madison. Taking the Rotary motto, “service above self” to heart, the local Rotarians have supported many local service projects, ranging from providing books to local elementary schools to area disaster relief, and more.
