James McClung DuRant, a junior at Madison High School, has been nominated for the annual Achievement Awards Program, sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). For the ninth year, NCTE is conducting the national Awards competition to grant recognition to outstanding high school seniors for excellence in English. The writing abilities and literary awareness of each nominee will be judged by local and state committees, and the NCTE will announce the winners in December of 1966.
The Parliamentary Procedure team placed first in the Sub-District FFA contest. Dan Buchanan won first place in public speaking. In tractor driving, Jerry Harris placed second.

Madison City Manager Tom Moffses is 1976 shown discussing the city’s proposed industrial park and request for county’s endorsement. The County Commissioners after considerable discussion Wednesday begrudgingly put their blessing on the deal with Commissioner Lee Bishop voting no.
Frank Mercer graduated from Florida State University, winter quarter 1976, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in accounting. He
was a member of the business honor fraternities Beta Alpha Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma. Frank will begin employment May 3 with the CPA firm of Taylor, Edinfield, Gillliam and Wiltshire of Ft. Myers, Fla. as an accountant. He will be joined by his wife, Midge, and daughter Melissa. A graduate of North Florida Junior College and Madison High School, Frank is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Mercer of Lee.
