A highlight of the Madison Chapter of the Future Farmers of America was the annual banquet, held Thursday evening in the elementary school cafetorium, with the fifty members of the organization and their parents attending as special guests. Gold and blue streamers centered the banquet tables and blue place cards, programs and napkins bore the FFA seal.
Mike and Mel McHargue, who won the Lee Talent Contest and who reside in Lovett, appeared on the Midday Report Show. They sang the same numbers they sang in the contest. The whole community of Lovett wishes them all the success life has to offer, and we are very proud of them. Mike and Mel go to Greenville High School.

Rev. Virgil Lovett will be conducting a revival at the Concord Baptist Church, April 11-16 at 7:30 p.m. The public is cordially invited.
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Browning’s home was the setting for a delightful cook-out when they, and Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Howerton, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Weger and Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Baker, entertained thirty guests honoring Miss Mary Ann Scruggs and Tim Sanders. The hosts and hostesses presented the couple with a chair.
Carl Bevis and his helpers barbecued about 450 pounds of chicken and prepared additional food to feed some 300 people at the State Land Judging Contest, held recently near Cherry Lake. The event was sponsored by local agricultural agencies in cooperation with business and service organizations. Assist “chefs” included Gregg Bour, Blalock Raines and Rudy Hamrick. “Overall, the 1986 Down Home Days activities must be considered a success,” according to Chamber President Jim Catron. “We have learned, however, that planning for 1987 must begin immediately.” Chamber officials will be asking members of various civic, social and religious organizations to join in the planning for next year. Much of the credit for the success of the activities as due to perfect weather, follow through on the part of participating organizations and good plans. The 1986 parade, which recognized the Volunteer Firefighters of Madison County, was one of the longest and best in recent years.
