The Visionary Women Awards Celebration presented by the Nu Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was held on Saturday, March 25, at 3 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Council in Madison.
Delores Jones, charter member of Nu Omega Omega Chapter and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for 42 years, had a vision to celebrate women who have made significant contributions to our community and to honor them during Women's History Month.
A planning committee was formed and worked in conjunction with the chapter's Uplift Our Local Community committee to bring the vision to light. "This inaugural program, which falls under the sorority's International Program Initiative, Uplift Our Local Community, focuses on celebrating women whose leadership and service have made a significant impact on the Madison County community,” said Regina Nash, Nu Omega Omega Chapter President.
The awards were presented to recognize and honor eight women in Madison County who have made significant contributions to the community through leadership, service, inspiration and mentorship.
The Honorable Dianne Williams Cox, Tallahassee City Commissioner, introduced the speaker for the evening, Honorable Allison Tant.
Tant, former lobbyist, Democratic Party of Florida Chair, and politician serving as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from the ninth district, was the guest speaker for the afternoon. Representative Tant is the recipient of many awards and recognitions, including the Tallahassee Community College Hall of Fame; the Innovative Community Engagement Earned Legacy Award and many other prestigious awards.
