The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has released further information on the shooting that claimed the life of 17-year-old James Williams, Jr on Saturday, Sept. 13. The investigation has determined that an adult male met with Williams and two other male juveniles, ages 17 and 15 to conduct a narcotic transaction. When the adult arrived at the location, Williams approached the vehicle armed with a handgun and attempted to rob the adult. The adult subject, who was still inside his vehicle, was also armed with a handgun. Several gunshots were exchanged between Williams and the adult, resulting in Williams being struck multiple times during the gunfire exchange. The adult male’s vehicle was hit by multiple bullets, however the adult male did not receive any injuries. The adult male then sped away from the scene.
This series of events has been confirmed by interviews, search warrants, and evidence collected to include digital media messages, both firearms, spent casings, recovered bullet projectiles, and video from a nearby home security system.
Sheriff’s Office investigators have contacted the Third Judicial State’s Attorney Office to confer with them the facts and evidence obtained during this investigation and possible criminal charges for the individuals involved. Currently, this case is still pending and remains an active investigation while waiting for further decisions from the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office and their review of the evidence that has been provided.
This case remains a priority and the Sheriff’s Office will continue to actively investigate all new information obtained and provided. There is no additional information that can be released at this time.
