On Wednesday, Feb. 15, at approximately 10:40 a.m., a two-vehicle crash occurred on South State Road 53, in front of the Days Inn Motel. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a white mini-van was traveling north on State Road 53. A black Chevrolet Equinox was traveling south on the same road, when the white mini-van attempted to turn left in front of the Equinox. The left front of the mini-van collided with the left front of the Equinox. The mini-van rotated counterclockwise before coming to a final rest in the northbound lane, facing northwest. The Equinox rotated counterclockwise and came to a final rest on the west unpaved shoulder, straddling the white line of the southbound travel lane of State Road 53, facing north. It was determined that the driver of the mini-van failed to yield right-of-way to the Equinox. A total of five people were transported to area hospitals with non-incapacitating injuries.
The FHP was assisted on the scene by the Madison County Sheriff's Office and Madison County Fire Rescue.
