On Tuesday, June 6, at 7 p.m., the Town Council of Lee held its regularly scheduled meeting. The Council was one member short of a quorum, meaning that nothing was voted on. As a result, a special session was scheduled for Monday, June 12, for the purpose of nominating and electing a new council-member to fill the seat left vacant by former council-member Jerry Terrill. The Council heard from Certified Public Accountant Kenneth Daniels, who delivered the Town's 2016 Financial Report. According to Daniels, “the Town of Lee had a good year financially, a very good year.”
The Town of Lee's total net position increased by approximately $269,000, largely due to the debt forgiveness from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Agency on a State Revolving Loan Agreement, which funded the installation of a wastewater system within the Town. The Governmental Activities fund increased slightly, by $34,000 and the Business-type Activities fund increased by approximately $235,000. The report listed two minor findings that require action by the town. First, there is a small amount of unclaimed property, in the form of outstanding checks. Secondly, an annual inventory of the Town's assets needs to be conducted. Town Manager John Anderson assured the Council that he would personally attend to those items.
Town Manager Anderson also informed the Council that the Town had received a check in the mail from the W.H. McNab Trust, in the amount of $500, to be used at the Town's discretion.
