The holiday season brings a level of joy and celebration that is unmatched during the rest of the year. With that, it also has the potential to be a time of tragedy is someone drives drunk. According to information from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), recent data shows that December deaths attributed to drug driving are already at their highest in almost 15 years. As a result, the MCSO is teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation to support “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” This campaign, which runs until Thursday, Jan. 1, is aimed at educating people about the dangers and harsh consequences of driving drunk. Due to this, you will likely see a greater law enforcement presence on the roads during this holiday season.
The MCSO reminds everyone:
• Never drink and drive.
• Never let someone get behind the wheel if that person has been drinking.
• If you are hosting a gathering, make sure everyone has a sober ride home.
• Call 911 if you see a drunk or impaired driver.
• Always wear your seat belt, it could be your best defense against imaged drivers.
The MCSO wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
