We are now in the “fall back” stage of the year where time is set back an hour and let me be the first to say, this is not my ideal time frame for the day. Since I’m in Pensacola, I am in the Central Time Zone, so while sunsets over in Madison are around 6:30 or so, mine are happening at 5:30. It’s so weird to be walking outside or leaving class and it being completely dark, when it’s not even 7:00 p.m. yet. I am a morning person, so having nights come faster really shifts my day around. My parents are the same way, and we just had a conversation about this very topic. That being said, while I will continue to moan and groan (to an extent) about the time change, I now have something new to get used to and shift my energy towards. Everything feels wonky right now in my day to day life, but it’s something that is completely out of my control so I can either embrace it or let it smother me, and the latter just seems like a lot less fun. These odd shifts in life happen all the time, and most of them, unlike time change, are things that only affect you or a small group of people. It’s okay to feel weird about these changes, but in the midst of all the negativity surrounding the situation, learn to embrace it and understand it is something that you have absolutely no control over. Yes, nights may be coming quicker, but at least that means I get to star gaze more. Yes, a lot may be happening with your job right now, but you still have an opportunity to show up and give your very best effort no matter the situation. Everyday, you have the opportunity to be a light of positivity in someone’s life even if you don’t know it. God put us here, right now, for a reason. All these shifts and changes in our lives may be inconvenient at the time, but there is always something to be learned in any circumstance. We might just have to look for it instead of focusing on how frustrating things may be.
