The last couple of weeks leading up to the start of our season have been rough, to say the least. We have been working overtime to prepare for our upcoming games and it has worn us down, both physically and mentally. Not every day is going to be our best day and since we have a team full of competitive athletes (and perfectionists), we have been working on allowing ourselves to fail and recover quickly. Finding ways to recover when you’re giving your all every day is a tough thing to do, not only for athletes, but for employees, bosses, parents, the list goes on and on.
Recovery can be as simple as speaking kindly to yourself after underperforming or “failing” in some way. Not everyone can take the time to go to a yoga class or take a long bath to help themselves relax, and that’s okay. Learning small but effective ways to recover is just as important as working towards those bigger goals. I have been practicing positive self-talk more frequently, and it has definitely helped my mental state when my performance in ball may not be up to par (in my eyes). Failing is part of the game, but it is also a part of life. What matters more is what you take out of it and how you recover from those situations. What ways can you recover in your daily life?
