There are a lot of things that change with time. Food preferences, body features, relationships all become altered in some form as years go by. Friendships is a big one that changes with time as you continue to meet new people and maybe lose contact with those who you used to be around all of the time that you may not see anymore. I used to hate that feeling; being really close with someone or a group of people then eventually drifting apart, it made me feel like I couldn’t have lifelong friends because of my constant movement with softball and focus on school. Even in college, I still dread senior weekend because I have drifted apart from those who have graduated ahead of me, no matter how close we may have been for that year or two years we played together. But this year, I am looking at it through different lenses. I have two of my best friends that are graduating this year and they have been with me since I came to college. But instead of feeling sad about their departure from the program, I am thanking God for the time that I was able to spend with them. They have definitely changed my life, as have everyone else who I may not be in contact with as much anymore, and I couldn’t be more thankful for their presence.
That being said, I know I will leave this college chapter with some lifelong friends of my own, those two being among them. Yet, I will still have my own path carved out and journey to take that will involve an entirely different group of people who I will get to encounter. Will I be sad when the time may come for our paths to split apart? Probably, but I will be focused on the wonderful moments I shared with those who waltzed their way into my crazy life, whether they are there for a long or short period of time. Focus on the present with the people you meet, even when the future comes. I am going to be trying my hand at that tactic as my journey continues.
