Over here in Pensacola, I have found several close friends that have become my family. The softball team as well as others from both UWF and Pensacola State College are people that I am around quite a bit, and we continue to grow closer throughout the years. Part of this family-like relationship comes from having what we call “family game nights.” Since we are all away from home, we get together at someone’s apartment and eat dinner, followed by board games and whatever else we come up with. During season this may subside a bit as we are all busy, but we try to partake in this whenever we can. There are times when my roommates and I are at home and our friends stop by to say hello before going to class or practice. Having these relationships are what helps take the stress away from college and being away from home, even if it’s for a small amount of time. This first week of school has already been a time of stress for a lot of us, but we know we can get through it together. Even for those back in Madison, I encourage you to find relationships like these with those you go to school or work with, as it will help tremendously. Having someone who is going through the same situation will not only create a strong bond, but will create a healthy space to figure out whatever you may be going through.
