Being centered in life is a goal that everyone wants to achieve, yet don’t exactly know how to do so. This Sunday, the message taught in my church was based around what we see as the center of our life. Ultimately, the goal is to have God in the center of our life, yet we rarely achieve this. My teammates and I had a long talk about how it is so common for athletes to put our sport in the center of our orbit rather than our faith and how we are all guilty of doing it. Some people put natural relationships or their phones at the center. Some may put their work before anything else. Continuously having other areas of our life in the center of our orbit rather than God causes us to be shaken instead of stable.
I am at fault for putting softball in the center of my orbit on multiple occasions. There are days that I let the sport consume my being, dictating my mood for the day and making me question my self-worth. This message really hit home by reminding me that I am bigger than my sport. I am bigger than my grades. Those earthly things do not define me as a person. Having my faith in the center of my orbit will help keep me stable in all of my earthly adventures. There will still be challenges, but understanding that I am following God’s plan and staying on His path for me will get me through any of the obstacles I may face. Today’s column is very personal, but I feel that if you as a reader can hear about someone else’s experiences, it will help you think more thoroughly about this aspect of your life. Hopefully it will help you feel not so alone as well. Life is tough, but God is tougher. Keep Him at the center.
