A 19-year-old Jacksonville teenager was injured following a crash on interstate 10 in Madison County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, near mile marker 245, in the eastbound lanes of I-10. Investigators say the teen was driving a sport utility vehicle in the inside lane when he approached another SUV towing a utility trailer at a slower speed.
According to the report, the driver failed to recognize the slower- moving vehicle ahead and collided with the rear of the trailer. The impact caused the SUV to overturn, coming to rest on its roof and blocking the eastbound travel lane.
The second vehicle, driven by a 39-year-old woman from St. Cloud, Fla., was able to safely pull over onto the emergency shoulder. She was not injured in the crash.
Authorities reported the teen driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.
Lane closures lasted approximately an hour and a half as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County EMS and FDOT Road Rangers assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
