According to information provided by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), on Thursday, Feb. 19, at approximately 6:30 p.m., MCSO investigators received word from the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office that a man with active warrants was possibly in Madison County. The man was wanted in connection with sex crimes involving a minor. MCSO investigators located the individual at an address on NE Juniper Drive, in Lee. When law enforcement arrived at the address an individual, later identified as the man with being sought, ran into a parked RV. It was soon learned that a woman, later identified as the man’s mother was also in the RV. Investigators made attempts to call the suspect out of the RV, but the man refused to comply, instead barricading himself in the RV, along with his mother. Law enforcement officials at the scene were able to establish a secure perimeter and negotiations continued with the suspect and his mother while the MCSO SWAT and drone teams were on their way to the scene.
While the negotiations continued, it was learned that the mother was not being held against her will, yet she refused to exit the RV. Eventually, the suspect exited the RV while holding a handgun to his own head. He was followed by his mother who was hold a knife to her own throat. But the suspect and his mother made threats to take their own lives. Further negotiations ensued until the woman turned and ran back into the RV. At the same time, the man shot himself in his head.
