Children and families gathered for an exciting week of Vacation Bible School (VBS) as St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church hosted its annual VBS program, “Illumination Station: Shining a light on who Jesus really is,” from Sunday, June 14, through Friday, June 19.

Held nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the week was filled with faith and fun as children participated in Bible lessons, arts and crafts, music and recreation activities. Throughout the week, children had opportunities to earn prizes by memorizing Scripture and learning the VBS motto. Participants also received gift certificates for free kids’ meals at Texas Roadhouse as part of the program’s rewards and recognition.

The week concluded with a special commencement ceremony on Friday, June 19. Participants who brought a friend or maintained perfect attendance were entered into prize drawings for popular squishy-themed baskets that included Needoh toys. Families also enjoyed water slides and bounce houses.

Lance Thigpen reported record attendance this year, with more than 150 children and volunteers participating each night. In addition to the strong turnout, the VBS program raised more than $2,000 for the church’s building fund, helping support the future growth and facility expansion.
