The North Florida Child Development facility had Smokey Bear as an honorary guest, along with his Madison County Forestry Department team, come out on Friday, Jan. 13, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. North Florida Child Development was completing a six-week series on trees, and the teachers decided that a great way to end the study was to have Smokey Bear and the forestry team come say “hello.”
The forestry department team read the story of Smokey Bear to the children and taught them about forests and wildfires. The children had a great time and learned a lot from the forestry department staff and Smokey Bear and also enjoyed taking pictures with them.
The forestry department members who were in attendance were: Wyatt Hunter, Alan Whigham, Smokey Bear, Shane Wells and Brandon Buchanan. The North Florida Child Development is a private preschool, which has been in Madison for 20-plus years. This preschool accepts three to five- year-olds and has four teachers and two classrooms.
