Chris Cooks is a Lieutenant in the Madison Police Department who answered the call to serve in more ways than one. During his off time, he holds barbeque cookouts for those who are sick or financially struggling. He pulls money from his own pockets and expects nothing in return. He was propelled into serving his community after his mother passed away from cancer in 2018. He wanted to help people who may be enduring illness and bring them to a happier place. He is especially passionate about helping those with cancer.
“He's always giving,” said Cooks' brother, John Cooks. “He's 100 percent when it comes down to helping others and being an honest man. I wouldn't have it no other way. He deserves some props for helping out as much as he does. It often goes unnoticed, but he still does it.”
Cooks has been married to Mary Cooks for almost 26 years. They have three children together: 24-year-old Christopher, Jr., 31-year-old Rashad and 32-year-old Byron. In his free time, Cooks enjoys hunting, fellowshipping and spending time with his family. He has been a member at Mt. Nebo AME Church since 1990. Cooks has 10 grandchildren.
