On Monday, March 1, law enforcement responded to a wreck involving two semi-trucks, at the intersection of US 221 and US 90, in Greenville. According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, the incident occurred when a box truck semi came to a stop at the stop sign. The driver was a 28-year-old man from Valdosta. At this point, a second semi, not involved in the collision, entered the turning lane to head southbound on US 221.
The box truck then proceeded through the stop sign and across the intersection, as a log truck approached. The driver of the box truck claimed that the semi in the turning lane blocked him from seeing the oncoming log truck. As he crossed, the 60-year-old driver from Perry, operating the log truck, attempted to maneuver and avoid collision. However, he was unsuccessful in doing so.
The front left side of the log truck made impact with the rear left side of the box truck. The driver of the box truck was charged with failure to yield to oncoming traffic. The driver of the log truck was transported for further medical assistance by Madison County Fire Rescue (MCFR). Trooper Llanes of FHP worked the scene, assisted by the Madison County Sheriff's Office and MCFR.
