Tamika Hughes-Leeks is the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Mental Health and Student Services for the Madison County School District. She is a passionate and experienced educational leader, dedicated to integrating systems and services that support schools and empower students to achieve excellence. A third-generation educator, she proudly continues a long-standing family legacy rooted in public education.
Hughes-Leeks brings more than two decades of experience in Pinellas County Schools, with over fifteen years spent in school and district leadership roles. Her career began in the classroom, where she developed a strong foundation in student-center instruction and support. She went on to serve as an MTSS Staff Developer and Graduation Coach across multiple school sites, working closely with students facing academic and personal challenges.
Her leadership experience spans both middle and high school settings, where she served as an assistant principal, supporting exceptional education programs, fundamental magnet schools, migrant education and turn-around school initiatives. Hughes-Leeks also made history as one of the founding principals of Disston Academy and Pinellas Teleschool, while additionally serving as a district leader for Extended Transition programs. Prior to joining Madison County Schools, she served as a high school principal, further strengthening her understanding of school operations, student needs and family management.
Each role along her professional journey has shaped her approach to education, giving her insight to the diverse needs of students, parents and educators alike. Her leadership is grounded in equity, collaboration and a commitment to ensuring that all students receive the support they need in order to thrive.
Hughes-Leeks holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Leo University and an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instructional Management and Administration from Nova Southeastern University. She has also completed extensive leadership training and holds numerous endorsements, including the participation in SREB/Florida Department of Education Turnaround Leadership Programs, Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Turnaround Leaders Institute and the National Institute for School Leadership through the National Center on Education and the National Center on Education and Economy.
Through her experience, education and dedication, Hughes-Leeks continues to be a strong advocate for students and a valued leader within the district.
