As consumers, we are always looking for ways to save money, especially when certain busy times come around, including the hustle and bustle of back-to-school preparations. Luckily, Florida and Georgia's sales tax holiday for 2016 is approaching close to when summer comes to an end and children in Madison County are getting ready to go back to school.
Thanks to a bill that was signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott back in April, Florida shoppers will get a three-day back-to-school sales tax holiday from Friday, August 5 to Sunday, August 7- a perfect time for Madison County, since school will begin on Wednesday, August 10. Parents will get the opportunity to save money and won't pay sales tax on clothes worth $60 or less and on school supplies worth $15 or less. Shoes are also eligible for tax exemption, so long as they cost $60 per pair.
However, this holiday does not apply to clothing items selling for more than $60, any school supply items selling for more than $15, books that are not otherwise exempt, personal computers and computer accessories, rentals or leases or repairs or alterations.
Georgia's back-to-school sales tax holiday only runs for two days: Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31. Clothing and footwear with a sales price of $100 or less per item; non-commercial purchases of $1,000 or less on computers, computer components and pre-written software; and purchases of school supplies up to $20 per item are all tax exempt.
