During the regular meeting of the Madison Rotary Club on Wednesday, July 1, the Rotarians installed Emily Margulis as the new club president. She will be at the helm of the club for the next year.
The Rotarians also heard a presentation from Josh Parsons and Alicia Redding, with the Big Bend Porch Light Project. The Big Bend Porch Light Project is a registered 501(c)(3) non profit that has a mission to “guide individuals out of homelessness and recovery into a future filled with purpose, safety and real opportunity.” One. Way the organization raises money is through the sale of hand-crafted soaps. Each bar of their soap is handcrafted here with ingredients such as goat milk, beef tallow and glycerin. They are also infused with scents like sandalwood and frankincense. Since their inception, they have served over 24,000 meals and helped place nearly 200 jobs. They have also helped clean up over 12,000 pounds of trash through community clean-up efforts across the Big Bend. More information, including how you can help, can be found at bigbendporchlightproject.com.
The Madison Rotary Club meets each Wednesday, at 12 p.m., at the Villa Maria Social Hall of the St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, located on Orange Ave., across from Beggs Funeral Home, in Madison. Taking the Rotary motto, “service above self” to heart, the local Rotarians have supported many local service projects, ranging from providing books to local elementary schools to area disaster relief and more.
