During the regular meeting of the Madison County Board of County Commissioners on Wednesday, Jan. 14, Public Works Director Jamie Willoughby spoke about a number of road projects. The commissioners approved a quote from Curtis Construction for the paving of NW Armadillo Way at a cost of $70,744.70. This quote was lower than it normally would have been because Curtis Construction is already in the county with other jobs. Another project discussed was the paving of a circular drive at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Investigations/Fuel Station location, behind the MCSO main office. Funding for this job would have to come from the county’s general fund. The quote for the job from Curtis Construction was $69,154. The issue of this job will be taken up again at the next scheduled meeting in order to clarify ownership of the property.
Also discussed was the restricting of Dale Leslie Drive. A bid of $19,993.36 from Jenkins Striping was approved. The commissioners approved a proposal for trash pickup by the county’s contracted mowing company, Southern Pine Straw. Southern Pine Straw made the offer to provide trash pick up for the approximately 1,400 acres at a cost of $10 per acre.
The commissioners approved a request for materials to be used during the rodeo planned for March. A total not to exceed $3,000 was approved for parking materials, etc. for the event. The event is set to take place on county property off of Dale Leslie Drive on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28.
There was some talk about parking at Cherry Lake Beach. Madison County Recreation Department Head Tommy Garner made the suggestion of roping off parking spaces that would allow for greater boat accommodations during approved tournaments. Also being considered is the placement of cameras that could be tied in with the system used by MCSO. This would prove helpful in identifying potential violators and vandals.
The next meeting of the Madison County Board of County Commissioners is set to take place on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the meeting room, in the Madison County Courthouse Annex, located at 229 SW Pinckney St., in Madison.
