The City of Madison is making significant progress in the construction of the new Public Services Facility that will be located at 1139 Harvey Greene Drive, just east of the Senior Citizens Center and south of the Emergency Operations Center.
The facility will replace the aged structure, known as the barn, located around Lake Francis. The barn was built some time near the early 1900s and is no longer safe for daily operations. The new facility will house the Public Works Department, Natural Gas Department and the Water/Waste Water Department.
The City of Madison is grateful to have received a grant from the State Revolving Fund to construct the facility and the associated preparations at a cost of $1,934,000, with a 90 percent rate of forgiveness. The property is in the final stage of being cleared and prepared for the infrastructure requirements prior to the delivery of the building in early October. The public will be notified of a ground-breaking ceremony, to be announced at a later time.
This major milestone has been a long time coming. This facility is only a portion of other significant upgrades in the City of Madison, thanks to a supportive Board of City Commissioners that believed in the effort that began in 2019. All the thanks to the city employees that made the trip to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to get this process started.
