A Rhode Island woman, Mrs. Elizabeth Harris, came to Madison, Fla., in the 1850’s. Florida had become a state in 1845. As a nurse, the Confederacy needed her, so from 1861 to 1865, Mrs. Harris was active in the Newnan-LaGrange hospital quadrant, just south and West of Atlanta, Ga.
