A tragic car accident on Saturday, Dec. 19 left a Monticello local deceased, and another with serious injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 6:30 p.m., Daniel “Austin” Allen, 19, of Monticello, and his passenger, Bryce Sanderson, also 19 and of Monticello, were traveling eastbound on Interstate 10. When he prepared to get on to the east ramp, for exit 251 at County Road 14, in Madison, Allen lost control of his Toyota pick-up, and the vehicle traveled off the roadway and onto the left side shoulder of the exit ramp before striking a ‘wrong way’ sign. The sign did little to stop the vehicle, and the truck continued its path on the shoulder, overturning multiple times. Allen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle at some point before the truck finally came to a rest on the left shoulder facing south. Allen was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased three hours after the wreck occurred. Sanderson, who remained in the truck as he was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Madison County Memorial Hospital for serious injuries. Allen is survived by his parents, Daniel and Cathrine Winburn-Allen of Monticello and his three brothers, Cody Allen (of Tallahassee), Travis Allen and Jon Allen, both of Bristol. Allen’s viewing, at 2 p.m., and funeral, 3 p.m., will take place Wednesday, Dec. 23 at Elizabeth Baptist Church, in Aucilla.
