On Sunday, July 5 at 11:50 p.m., officers from the Madison Police Department were dispatched to Hilltop Apartments Complex located at 251 SW Safari Drive in front of apartment 306 in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers and emergency personnel discovered 25-year-old Demetrius Arnold, who had been shot multiple times. Arnold was transported to Madison County Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. During the investigation, two eyewitnesses positively identified Jimmy Lee Davis, Jr., 39, of Madison as the person who shot Arnold. The witness advised that a verbal argument broke out between Arnold and Davis. During the argument, Davis retrieved a firearm and shot Arnold multiple times and fled the scene. As a result of a joint investigation between Madison Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office, Davis was located hiding in an attic at a relative’s house by the Sheriff’s Office Canine Team. Davis was taken into custody without incident and charged with 1st degree murder.
