National Security: Midway
Throughout history, there are epic battles that change the course of history. An example is the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. Today is the 83rd anniversary of such a battle. This struggle took place at sea in the Central Pacific near a small atoll called Midway.
Midway is a very small island located about halfway between the Hawaiian Islands and Japan, hence its name. It was an important refueling stop for our Navy and the Pan American Clippers that hop-scotched the Pacific in the 1930s.
