It was in the mid-1970s when The Eagles released their hit single “Lyin’ Eyes.” It is about younger women who cheat on their older “sugar daddy” husbands. Sitting at the popular Los Angeles bar, Dan Tana, songwriters Glenn Frye and Russell Henley remarked that the cheaters had “lyin’ eyes.” The same can be said for us – there are things so obvious that they are betrayed by lyin’ eyes.
We can say the same about Joe Biden. It is obvious to even the most casual observer that ever since he took office in January of 2021, he is cognitively impaired. His daily mistakes in speech are not gaffes or misstatements but rather disconnects between his brain and voice. His halting gait, hands strangely out in front for balance, and searching for his spot to stand or leave, are physical signs of impairment. His stumbles and trips, highlighted by the significant fall on the stage at the Air Force Academy Graduation last summer, are both obvious and painful to watch. Clearly put, he is out of his league – the aging athlete beyond his prime who refuses to retire.
