Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) is the Republican nominee for vice president. He just turned 40 a few weeks ago, so he is quite young, elected to public office for the first time just two years ago. Still, in only four decades, he has done a lot and come a long way.
In 2016, Harper published his book “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture Crisis.” This was years before he entered politics. Hillbilly Elegy quickly shot up to become number one on the NY Times best seller list and was subsequently made into a NETFLIX movie directed by Ron Howard that was quite popular. Last week, while recovering from surgery, I read Elegy to better understand just who J.D. Vance is. Frankly, I was tired of the lame-street media trying to define him; better to go to the source.
