A chameleon is a class of rain forest lizards that has the unique capability to change colors depending on their surroundings. It is a form of camouflage and defensive mechanism for the reptile. They can defeat predators by blending in with their surroundings and becoming invisible.
Sometimes, we identify politicians as ‘chameleons’ where they ‘change their stripes’ as a form of political expedient. It is a way to hide their true identity or belief system. This is a criticism of Vice President Kamala Harris. In more than a month since becoming the Democratic nominee for president under very unusual circumstances, she has not given a single interview nor answered questions from the press. She has given speeches from teleprompters at big rallies, but that isn’t the same as answering tough questions, especially about inconsistencies of policies she has previously advocated and now changed … maybe. Some have given her the nickname “Hiding Harris.”
