Multiple Sclerosis: an unpredictable disease with growing awareness

Multiple Sclerosis, commonly known as MS, is an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. This damage disrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body, leading to symptoms that can range from mild numbness to severe paralysis. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke notes that MS typically begins between ages 20 and 40, with women more than twice as likely to
