Simmie Lee Barfield Thomas, 73, was the daughter of Samuel Barfield and Charlie Mae Johnson Barfield. Except for the seven years she resided in Jacksonville, Fla., she lived her entire life in Madison, Fla. She was married to Freddie Lee Thomas, who, along with her parents, preceded her in death.
Graveside Life Services, with COVID-19 restrictions, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021, on the lawn of Oakridge No.1 Cemetery, in Madison. A public viewing and visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2021, in the chapel of Tillman of Madison, ~A Hall-Moore Provider~ (850) 973-6677, 379 W. Base Street, in Madison.
Simmie Lee was a 1964 Madison County Training School graduate, who furthered her education locally at the Suwannee River Junior College. She later married Freddie Lee, and they taught their children the importance of having a relationship with God, being good citizens and being educated.
Earlier in her life, Simmie Lee accepted Christ as her Savior and joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church, in Madison. She remained a faithful member who enjoyed being a member of the culinary ministry, but she also served wherever she was needed.
She loved spending time with the many generations of her family, friends and church family. She was especially delighted in preparing soul food feasts for them. For her personal enjoyment, she loved watching television and solving crossword puzzles.
Simmie Lee’s varied employment career spanned years at Madison Rehabilitation Center (Dulay Nursing Home), the local KFC (assistant manager), and Kids, Incorporated (teacher).

Forever cherishing Simmie Lee’s loving memory are her children: Keith (Geneva) Thomas, Delmonie (LaShondral) Thomas, Tantrell Solomon and Francesa Solomon; siblings: Rev. Dr. Charlie (Shirley K.) Barfield, Raleigh (Annie) Barfield, Alfred Barfield, Marjorie Jackson, Sandra (John) Gibson, Lisa Barfield, Kebra Grimmage, Barbara (Dale) Bonner and Victoria Thompson; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; aunts: Mary Hall, Loretta Johnson, Shellie (Lewis) Golden and Catherine Price; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, her St James Missionary Baptist Church family, other loving relatives and sorrowful friends.
