According to a report submitted by Madison County Fire Rescue (MCFR) Fire Chief Allen Clayton, on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 10, at approximately 9:48 a.m., units from MCFR responded to a call regarding a house fire at 343 NW Leggett Ave, in Greenville. According to the report, the structure was fully involved in flames when the first of five units from MCFR arrived at 10:04 a.m. Firefighters battled the blaze for close to 45 minutes before gaining control of the fire. The last units cleared the scene at 12:34 p.m., after awaiting the arrival of the fire marshalls.
The estimated property loss was $45,033, the loss of contents was still unknown. The exact cause of the fire was unknown. During the fight with the blaze, crews were subjected to moderate to heavy smoke inhalation, along with skin and eye contact, for 21-60 minutes.
