In an effort to empower women in Madison County, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) will be offering a self-defense class for female teens and adults. The classes, for ages 14 and older, will teach a variety of skills that will heighten self awareness, as well as practical methods women can use in order to protect themselves. The class is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., at the North Florida College Public Safety Building.
MCSO Capt. Jarrod Lauth and MCSO Undersheriff Chris Andrews will offer instruction on:
• Basic, effective self-defense techniques and escapes
• Simple methods to disable any attacker
• Situational awareness tips and precautionary measures to help prevent an attack
The class will be limited to the first 30 participants to register and a waiver must be signed before the class. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. To reserve a spot, place contact Capt. Lauth at (850) 253-3322, or by email at Jarrod.lauth@mcso-fl.org. There is no cost for the class.
