For the fourth time since 2009, the Madison County High School athletic program has been named the Cary McDonald Athletic Program of the Year in their classification, by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA). The criteria for the award is based on the school's overall success in boys and girls athletics and the school's ranking in the Florida High School Athletic Association Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup All Sports Award. This past year, MCHS' boys program was the top program in Class 1A for the Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup. MCHS was narrowly edged out for the overall Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup by Baker High School.
“Madison County is honored to receive the FACA Cary McDonald Program of the Year for Class 1A,” said MCHS Athletic Director Price Harris. “It is a testament to the athletes, coaches and administration with the product they put on the field year in and year out. The student-athletes have represented this great community very well, competing at the highest level with class and respect. Our coaches continue to give our student-athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills and develop them to compete for championships. Our Administration from the Superintendent down to every Administrator in our county has given our student-athletes the support and tools to be successful. It is a great honor and a testament to what this community has fostered a championship caliber of expectations and risen to support the Cowboys and Cowgirls at every turn. It is a great day to be a Cowboy!”
