A group of young athletes from the Madison County Special Olympics Pickleball Team recently had a successful trip to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in Regional competition. Four members of the team returned home with gold medals. The doubles team of Nicholas Wright and Logan Fadden won gold in their competition and will represent Madison County at the State level when they will compete at the ESPN Wide World of Sports, in Orlando, Fla., in November.
Two others, Jace Ashley and Bryleigh Allchin, brother and sister, won gold in the “skills athletes” division. In this division, the athletes don’t compete head-to-head. Instead they show off their skills at mastering various aspects of the games, such as forehands, backhands, etc.
Special thanks to go Assistant Coach Leslie McLeod, along with volunteers Summer McLeod and Jazmine Reddy. For more information about the Madison County Special Olympics Pickleball Team, including how you can help, please contact Coach Elise Hulme at (407) 247-5702.
