A Madison resident was fatally injured early Thursday morning in a tragic vehicle-pedestrian collision on West Jefferson street near South 11 Street, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred around 3:25 a.m. on Nov. 13, within the city limits of Quincy. FHP say a 29-year-old woman from Marianna, driving a Dodge Charger westbound on West Jefferson Street, struck a 58-year-old male pedestrian from Madison who had entered the westbound lanes of the roadway.
According to the report, the driver attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the collision. The pedestrian came to rest within the westbound lanes, while the vehicle came to a controlled stop on the median.
Emergency responders transported the man to HCA Gadsden Emergency Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash. His next to kin have been notified.
The driver sustained minor injuries and was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
Following the investigation and cleanup, the westbound lanes of West Jefferson Street were reopened. The incident remains under investigation by the FHP.
