Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Wednesday, June 29, the City of Madison contacted the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and requested assistance with a criminal investigation involving Ricky Hudson, 45, of Madison, a City of Madison employee. The case was assigned to Sgt. Rich Klein of the MCSO's Criminal Investigation Department.
The case involved a fraudulent invoice being submitted by Hudson, who was the City Public Works Director. The invoice was submitted and paid on Friday, June 24. On this same day, the vendor on which the fraudulent invoice was drawn notified City Hall of the suspicious activity and was returned the funds from said invoice that had been paid. Hudson was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The investigation revealed that Hudson had submitted a fraudulent invoice and in return, received payment for said invoice. The investigation further obtained probable cause to support the facts of the investigation. A capias was issued for the arrest of Ricky Hudson and was executed on Monday, July 25.
Hudson is facing charges of grand theft of $300 or more, but less than $5,000.
