On one of the many monuments in Madison's Four Freedoms Park is a list of names. The names permanently engraved on this monument are those of young Madison County residents who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States. On Monday, May 29, the Veterans Service Office and retired Army SFC. Alvin Swilley sponsored a Memorial Day ceremony on the steps of the Madison County Courthouse in order to honor those Madison County residents and the many others who have lost their lives in the service of our country.
The keynote speaker for the event was an Army veteran, MSG. Retired Clifford Rivers, who was introduced by Air Force veteran, Eddie Ealy. City of Madison Manager and Air Force veteran Jerome Wyche served as Master of Ceremonies for the event.
After the ceremony, Donnell Davis and his crew served barbecue sandwiches with all the trimmings to those in attendance.
