The Madison County Solid Waste and Recycling Department has launched a new monthly newsletter designed to keep residents informed about the department’s work, services and efforts to maintain a clean community.
The first edition of the Madison County Solid Waste Newsletter provides residents with updates, helpful information, department news and behind-the-scenes insight into the work carried out by Solid Waste employees throughout the county.
The newsletter will serve as a recurring source of information for residents, with each edition highlighting projects, practical tips, featured services and other information related to waste disposal and recycling. The department hopes the publication will give residents a better understanding of the services available to them, while encouraging everyone to play a role in keeping Madison County clean.
The inaugural summer edition also includes information about Madison County’s collection sites and recycling services, along with reminders about proper disposal of household materials.
Among the information highlighted is the importance of recycling. The newsletter notes that recycling one ton of paper can save approximately 17 trees, while also reminding residents that tires should not be placed in household garbage or burned. Instead, residents are encouraged to dispose of materials through the appropriate county facilities.
Residents are also reminded that certain items, including propane tanks, batteries and paint, should not be placed in regular waste containers. Proper disposal helps protect workers, residents and the environment.
Madison County currently operates 13 solid waste and recycling collection sites throughout the county. The sites are strategically located to provide residents with convenient places to dispose of household garbage and recyclable materials, and attendants are available to assist residents. Tires and oil are not accepted at the collection sites and should instead be taken to the Solid Waste and Recycling Center.
The department’s mission is to help protect the environment while maintaining clean surroundings throughout Madison County. The Solid Waste and Recycling Department encourages residents to make use of the services available and to do their part in keeping the county clean.
The new newsletter provides another way for the department to communicate directly with the public and share information that residents can use in their everyday lives.
