On Wednesday, June 29, the 10th annual Youth Summer Camp began, which was hosted by the Madison County Sheriff's Office. For three days, kids ages 8-17 engaged in various activities such as obstacle courses, archery and learning about gun safety at the Madison County Sheriff's Office Firing Range. Their days were filled with demonstrations and explanations from the Sheriff's Office as well as other departments around the county. At the recreational park, several representatives from each department gathered their equipment and discussed with the camp participants the details of their occupations, and answered any questions they had. Life flight medics even joined the party in their helicopter, and the Sheriff's Office brought out their young hounds for the occasion.
Over the course of the camp, participants learned about what goes on behind the scenes in our Madison departments. The youth were also able to dip their toes into several professions, which could possibly help them determine their goals for adulthood. The Sheriff's Office was thrilled to have such a successful camp, and are excited for the upcoming events involving the community.
