During their final regular-season game on Thursday, Dec. 11, the Madison County Central School (MCCS) Broncos and Lady Broncos honored the eighth-grade basketball players and cheerleaders. It was a good night to be a Bronco as both the boys and girls basketball teams defeated the Trojans of Hamilton County Middle School.
After the ceremony honoring the eighth-grade students, the Lady Broncos took the court to face the Lady Trojans. The Lady Broncos went out to an early lead, holding the Lady Trojans scoreless in the first quarter, which ended with a 17-0 Lady Bronco lead. The Lady Broncos continued to add to their lead during the second quarter and took a 27-2 lead into halftime. After building a 32-2 lead during the third period, the Lady Broncos enjoyed a continuously running game clock during the final quarter. The game ended with the Lady Broncos securing an undefeated season and a 34-2 win over the Lady Trojans.
It was a much more competitive contest when the boys teams hit the court. After a low-scoring start, the Broncos built a 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Broncos outpaced the Trojans during the second period and the score was 16-7, in favor of the Broncos when intermission rolled around. The Trojans managed to tighten the score after halftime and the third quarter finished with the Broncos holding an 18-11 lead. The Trojans continued to tighten the scoring gap during the final period and pulled to within one point of the Broncos before the Broncos opened their lead again to finish the contest with a 25-19 win.
