Madison 4-H wrapped up their 2025 summer camp season with Camp USA from Monday, July 7, through Wednesday, July 8.
The first day, campers were visited by the Cherry Lake American Legion, who taught them flag etiquette and the correct way to fold a flag. Then, they visited the Madison County Court House and had Clerk of Courts Billy Washington give them a tour. At the courthouse, campers held a mock trial in the courtroom. For lunch, they had a picnic at the Four Freedoms Park. Later, campers met Supervisor of Elections, Heath Driggers, for a mock election. Lastly, they finished the day with creating some USA-themed crafts.
Day two of Camp USA, campers visited the state capitol to meet State Representative Allison Tant. Then, they created their own bill, questioned it, argued about the bill and then voted. The bill that was proposed was lowering the legal driving age to eight years old. This proposed bill did not pass. Afterwards, they ate lunch on the 22nd floor of the Capitol. Lastly, campers enjoyed a tour of the House of Representatives.
On the last day, campers started the day with visiting the Treasures of Madison County Museum, where they looked at all the exhibits and heard stories of past Madisonians. Then, they visited the Madison Chamber of Commerce and got a tour of the new building. The campers then returned and did some more U.S. themed crafts. After crafting, they enjoyed a nice lunch of hamburgers, hotdogs and some cold lemonade. For the finale, campers were able to use the homemade slip and slide to cool down.
