Madison resident, Loma Ray Chandler, celebrated her 90th birthday in style on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Her daughter, Peggy Carter, traveled from her home in California to help make sure that it was a memorable day.
Chandler was on the sidewalk near her home, talking with friends, when a procession of cars made its way by her home. With horns blowing and numerous well-wishers waving in parade fashion to the surprised birthday girl, the party was off to a good start. After all of the fanfare, a large group of friends congratulated Chandler and hung around to help her eat the birthday cake.
Chandler was born in Bethel, Texas, in 1931, before coming to Florida in 1965. She began working at Madison County Memorial Hospital in 1969, primarily in the X-ray department. Chandler retired in 1994, the same year her husband of 42 years, Teddy, passed away.
She enjoys her retirement, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Other favorite past times include traveling, playing cards, bingo and working in her garden.
Chandler has four children: Ronnie, Diane, Connie and Peggy.
