The Madison Lions Club has been busy supporting their community the last two weeks.
At their Tuesday, Sept. 27, weekly meeting, they had the founder of Boyz to Kings and his wife, Merv and Denise Mattair, as their guests. Boyz to Kings is a program that teaches young men how to become gentlemen in all aspects of their life. Mattair has approximately 60 boys in this group, and they meet three times a week, where a meal is also provided. To help Mattair with this great cause, the Lions Club donated $500.
At their next meeting, on Tuesday, Oct. 4, the special guests were Annabelle Scott, the Scholarship Coordinator of North Florida College (NFC) along with an NFC student, Jayce Johnson. The Lions Club presented a check to Scott for $2,000. The money will be split up two ways, with $1,000 going towards the NFC Scholarship Foundation Fund and the other $1,000 going towards the NFC Nursing Program.
After the Oct. 4, meeting adjourned, Lions Club members traveled to Madison County Memorial Hospital (MCMH) to see their acorn. The Lions Club received an acorn on The Tree of Life by donating $2,500 to the hospital. The Tree of Life graces the main entrance of the lobby of the hospital. This tree serves as a lasting memorial to those whose names are engraved on each leaf. The donations made to the hospital through The Tree of Life ensures that the hospital has the resources it needs to continue providing healthcare to Madison County and the surrounding communities.
The Madison Lions Club meets every Tuesday at 12 p.m. at Cucinella's Brick Oven Pizzeria. Cucinella's is located at 201 SW Rutledge St., in Madison.
