It would appear that life has come full circle for Madison County High School (MCHS) grad Lorenzo Cain. Cain, a standout baseball player for the MCHS Cowboys, has been playing for the Kansas City Royals until his contract ended. Cain became a free agent at the end of the 2017 season. According to a report in MLB.com, Cain has just recently signed a five year deal with the Milwaukee Brewers worth an estimated $80 million. Cain began his major league baseball career with the Brewers after having been drafted by the Brewers in the 17th round of the June amateur draft from MCHS. Cain made his major league baseball debut with the Brewers on July 16, 2010 in a game against the Atlanta Braves.
The addition of Cain to the Brewers' outfield comes on the heels of another acquisition by the Brewers, Christian Yelich, from the Miami Marlins. The addition of Cain and Yelich should help to bolster the Brewers' outfield. In 2017, the Brewers finished the season in second place in the National League Central Division with an 86-76 record, six games behind the division-leading Chicago Cubs. Cain leaves a Royals team that finished third in the American League Central Division with an 80-82 record, 22 games behind the division winning Cleveland Indians.
Last season, Cain had a batting average of .300 with 15 home runs, 49 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases. Over his career, Cain has a batting average of .290 with 57 homers, 321 RBIs, and 127 stolen bases.
Cain has been a fan-favorite in Kansas City, but is looking forward to contributing to the Brewers. "We've got a chance to be pretty good," said Cain to MLB.com. "I'm looking forward to doing whatever I can to help. It would seem we're a playoff contender."
